1 thing I've noticed

When you fall off the wagon with your workout routine and start eating a bunch of crap and sit on the couch watching TV and forget about your workouts, you lose a lot of progress which is obvious. But how much do you lose? I've noticed that being away from my hardcore training for about 3 years now that I've still maintained about 75% of my strength but a very low percentage of my cardio output. This was showing it's ugly head when I was lifting as well. I couldn't last as long even though my strength wasn't down too far.

So this morning I went running for the first time in a very long time. I've done some cardio over the last few months but very minimal and usually on an elliptical and not really running. This morning I went outside and ran along the river. It was pathetic. :) I couldn't last anywhere near my best before. Oh well, I'm not trying to break any records, just trying to push myself further. I've never been a fan of cardio; I've done it only because it is a necessary component to change. But now it's even harder since I've lost so much ground. I wish I could remember what it was like that cold morning back in Jan 2001 when I started training for the first time. Hopefully I was a little better than that but I doubt it. :)

1 day down

Baby steps, right? It's been a while since I've been on this program and have eaten so much junk over that time that I'm happy with myself for making it perfect through the first day. Diet was spot on and my workout was good. 1 day at a time. Although Thanksgiving is a couple days away. :)

Measurements posted

I just posted my starting measurements at http://runfatboyrunyan.com/rickrunyan_progress/measurements.html

After the first week, on Sunday Nov 30th, I'll start posting the charts for each measurement and you can see those by clicking each of the buttons at the top. There is one for weight, body fat%, waist, hip, and gut. The charts will make it easy to see how good or bad I'm doing. :)

Not bad start

Well I'm definitely out of shape, no doubt about that. :) That is one of the toughest things for me when I'm trying to get back in the routine is seeing how much progress I've lost. When I started back in 2001 with my workouts I didn't have anything to base it off so I just went through thrg motions to see what happened. I made progress each week and with every little milestone achieved I grew more and more hungry for the fit and healthy body. Now that I'm fat again and have already been in good shape, it's tough seeing how bad I am right now. I'm tired of though. This time I'm not going to let the progress slip away. I'm getting older and it will just get harder and harder. I want to be able to look at myself in the mirror and if I let myself down now I won't be able too...plus who would want to see that in the mirror anyway if I continue slipping? :)

Day One

I took my measurements yesterday and will soon have them posted on my site. It is Monday morning now and I'm about to go hit the gym for the first time in a very long time. Today is upper body so we'll see how the back does. Here goes nothing. :)

It has begun

As many of you know, I tried getting back in shape earlier this year with no luck. In fact I'm getting close to my original weight before I really got into fitness and working out. This blog, which accompanies my website (http://www.runfatboyrunyan.com/) will be my place to write down what I'm currently doing and the progress I'm making with my latest quest to get back in shape. I will update this blog a few times each week with a minimum of once a week with my measurements. Wish me luck, I'm going to need it. :)
